To mark New Square’s 5th birthday, we want local young people to put pen to paper and write a poem celebrating West Bromwich!
The competition is open to budding wordsmiths aged 18 and under who feel inspired to express their love of where they live in rhyme. The poems can be long or short, a limerick, verse or Haiku, as long as it captures the spirit of West Bromwich anything goes!
The winner will receive £200 in gift cards and two runners up will each get £100 to treat themselves at their choice of stores including The Entertainer, Primark and Next. All three poems will also go on permanent display at the shopping centre, as part of our 5th birthday celebrations, with the top 20 entries being published on Facebook and made available for download as part of a ‘virtual poetry book’ to commemorate the anniversary. The three winners will also be invited to New Square to see their poems unveiled for the first time!
Entries should be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or sent by direct message to New Square Shopping Centre’s Facebook page before the competition closes on Monday 20 August. All entries need to include the name and age of the person who wrote the poem, as well as contact details for their parent or guardian. The judges will then select the three winners to be announced in early September before their poems go on display at the shopping centre. Happy writing!
